Pairing Wine and Girl Scout Cookies: A Cheat Sheet!

Post Updated February 2026

Tis the season for Girl Scout Cookies!

For me, it’s time to start planning which wine to pair with which box of cookies.  There are just so many different types of cookies available that it can get a little overwhelming when you think about all the options.

I just do not feel like I would be doing you any justice as a wine educator if I didn’t give you my tips on how to have the best Girl Scout Cookies and Wine pairings possible.

Girl Scout Cookies and Wine Pairing

Thin Mints and Cabernet Sauvignon

Pair Thin Mints with a bold red like Cabernet Sauvignon, particularly a South Australianicon one like Mollydooker The Maitre D’icon . Its medium body and fruit-forward style, complemented by herbal Eucalyptus aromas, balance the mint and chocolate flavors.

(P.S. Mollydooker is just a fun brand all around. Don’t forget the “Mollydooker Shake!“)

Lemonades and Pinot Grigio

Pair your fruity Lemonades with a white wine like a high-acid Italian Pinot Grigio for balance. The acidity in this wine perfectly complements the tart lemon flavor in the cookie.

Trefoils and Chardonnay

Pair the classic Trefoil with a  Chardonnay from Californiaicon ,aged in oak for rich, buttery notes and aromas of vanilla and baking spice, which will perfectly complement the shortbread.

(Don’t be afraid to even dip the cookie in the wine… like a grown-up cookies and milk 😉

Peanut Butter Pairings: Patties and Sandwiches

For the peanut butter lovers, Peanut Butter Patties go perfectly with a semisecco (off-dry) Lambruscoicon, creating a grown-up PB & J experience. Meanwhile, Peanut Butter Sandwich cookies are best enjoyed with a jammy Malbec icon from Argentina, which is full and rich with fruity notes.

Caramel Delight with Sauternes

Sauternesicon, a sweet, dessert wine from the Loire Valley made from Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon grapes, has caramel and butterscotch notes that pair beautifully with these cookies.

Fair warning though… Sauternes isn’t cheap. It’s AMAZING, but not cheap. For a more affordable option, you can also consider a late-harvest Rieslingicon.

Adventurful with Tawny Port

Brownie-inspired cookies with caramel-flavored crème and a hint of sea salt pair nicely with a sweet tawny Porticon, complementing the chocolatey, caramel, and salty components.

Exploremores and Petite Sirah

New for 2026, the Exploremores™ cookie is inspired by rocky road ice cream, featuring chocolate, toasted almonds, marshmallow, and nuts. It’s rich and sweet. I think it’s really meant to be a full on dessert in cookie form.

In a perfect wine-geek world, I would pair this with Banyuls from Southern France. Banyuls is practically made for chocolate. It’s nutty, cocoa-driven, and silky with just enough sweetness to melt into something like this.

But… Banyuls can be hard to find, at least in my area. So for ease (and sanity), I’m going with Petite Sirah.

A good Petite Sirah brings deep dark fruit, cocoa, and a little spice. It has the body to stand up to the chocolate and enough structure to keep the marshmallow from turning everything too sweet. The toasted almond in the cookie actually pulls out the wine’s subtle oak and cocoa notes in a really satisfying way.

It’s bold, it’s indulgent, and it makes this cookie feel like a full dessert course.
